How to create a signed mandate

Simple steps on how to create a signed mandate

A signed mandate allows businesses to authorise a Direct Debit transaction with the signatories attached to their bank account.

1. To get started, log into your dashboard, and navigate to Mandates.

2. Click the 'Create a mandate' button at the top-right corner of the screen.

3. Choose the mandate type, i.e Signed mandate and click "Continue".


4. Enter the Mandate details below and click the "Continue" button to create a mandate.
- Select app

- Select customer

- Select debit type i.e Variable or Fixed

- Brief description about the mandate


5 (a). For Variable mandate:
Enter the Payment details below and click "Create mandate".

- Select payment plan: You can learn how to create a payment plan by following the steps in this article.

- Enter mandate amount: It should be greater than N200

- Start date: The date should be at least 3 days into the future

- End date

- Mandate amount: This is dependent on the payment plan created.

5 (b). For Fixed mandate:
Enter the Payment details below and click "Create mandate".

- Select payment plan: You can learn how to create a payment plan by following the steps in this article.

- Enter debit amount: It should be greater than N200
- Select payment interval i.e daily, weekly, monthly etc.

- Start date: The date should be at least 3 days into the future

- End date
- Retrial frequency (Number of retries on a particular debit date [Minimum is 1 & Maximum is 6).

- Initial debit amount: This is dependent on the payment plan created.

- Initial debit date

- Minimum amount due (The lowest amount that will be debited if the account does not have the initial amount to be debited).
- Grace period (days)


6. Voila! Your mandate has been created successfully!

An email will be sent to the customer for authorization of the mandate. Alternatively, the mandate link can be copied and shared with the customer.

7. Finally, you can click "Close" to exit the page.
