How to create an E-mandate

Steps on how to create an e-mandate type on the Mono dashboard.

An e-mandate provides a faster approval process for businesses and allows customers authorize a Direct Debit transaction on their account via a quick bank transfer.

  1. To create an E-Mandate, log into your Mono dashboard first, then navigate to Mandates on your sidebar.

  2. Click on the "Create a mandate" button at the top right corner of your dashboard.

  3. Choose the mandate type i.e. E-mandate, and click the "Continue" button.

  4. Enter the requested details and click the "Continue" button to create a mandate.

    1. Select app

    2. Select customer

    3. Select debit type i.e Variable or Fixed

    4. Brief description about the mandate

    5. Redirect URL - This is optional.

  5. There are two payment types:

    1. For the variable mandate:
      Enter the requested details and click the "Create mandate" button to create a mandate.

      1. Select payment plan: this article will guide you on how to create a payment plan.

      2. Enter Total maximum debit amount: It should be greater than N200

      3. Start date: The date should be at least 3 days into the future

      4. End date

      5. Mandate amount: This is dependent on the payment plan created.


    2. For the fixed mandate:

      Enter the required details below and click the "Create mandate" button to create a mandate.

      1. Select payment plan: You can learn how to create a payment plan by following the steps in this article.

      2. Enter debit amount: It should be greater than N200

      3. Select payment frequency ie. daily, weekly, monthly etc.

      4. Start date: The date should be at least 3 days into the future

      5. End date

      6. Retrial frequency (The number of times a debit should be attempted after an initial failed attempt before marking it as failed).

      7. Initial debit amount: This is dependent on the payment plan created.

      8. Initial debit date

      9. Minimum amount due (The lowest amount that will be debited if the account does not have the initial amount to be debited).

      10. Grace period (days)

  6. Your mandate will be created successfully!

    An email will be automatically sent to your customer for authorization of the mandate. However, you can copy the generated URL and share it with your customer as an alternative.
